Ubisoft has announced that it will cease operations in Korea after 22 years.
Ubisoft’s Korean branch will close on April 30, 2024. Ubisoft explains that this is part of the company’s restructuring process that began in January 2023.
This department is responsible for localizing Ubisoft games into Korean, marketing and publishing, and is responsible for organizing e-sports events in Korea. Ubisoft emphasized that even after the local branch closes, it will continue to release games in Korea and organize tournaments normally. The method of implementation is to hire other companies to perform these tasks.
The announcement of the closure of Ubisoft’s Korean division comes a week after mass layoffs in two of the company’s other divisions: global publishing and Asia-Pacific. Sandrine Caloiaro, head of investment management at Ubisoft, has decided to quit. She worked for the company for 10 years before leaving.
Caloyaro’s resignation was reported by Ethan Gach in Dead Game. Caloyaro confirmed that she has left Ubisoft, but did not reveal the reasons for this decision or her plans for the future. “I believe that Ubisoft will continue to create great games and wish them success in the future,” Caloyaro said.
