Assassin’s Creed Mirage Review: Pros and Cons of This Game. For Gamers Who Are Considering Buying Assassin’s Creed Mirage for a Test Run
“Assassin’s Creed Mirage is an upcoming stealth action game developed by Ubisoft Bordeaux and is scheduled to be released on October 5, 2023, on platforms including PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. After a long period of focusing on expansive RPG-style games, Mirage marks the return of the Assassin’s Creed franchise to its core stealth and parkour gameplay. Set in 9th-century Baghdad, players will assume the role of Basim, a skilled street thief and a potential member of the Assassins’ organization. After a deadly act of revenge, Basim must flee Baghdad and join The Hidden Ones, the precursor organization of the Assassins.
Taking inspiration from the early entries in the series, Mirage promises to deliver a more traditional Assassin’s Creed experience compared to recent titles like Origins, Odyssey, or Valhalla. Below are the key details about the gameplay, story, setting, release date, and more for Assassin’s Creed Mirage.
Overview of Assassin’s Creed Mirage”
Assassin’s Creed Mirage is a significant step for the Assassin’s Creed franchise as it returns to its roots. The game focuses on stealth gameplay and exploration, offering a slower and more detailed experience compared to recent RPG iterations.
With the return of mechanics for hiding, evading, and assassinations, Mirage completely removes the experience and character leveling system. This means that, if played skillfully, you can eliminate enemies with a single stealthy knife strike. Most areas provide multiple ways to hide, and the return of the eagle vision ability allows you to survey every angle before deciding your next move.
AI Enhancements for NPCs in Assassin’s Creed Mirage
The strongholds are heavily fortified, with high-security compounds resembling prisons and coastal fortresses regularly patrolled by multiple guards with overlapping lines of sight. Especially in the early stages, the threat of engaging multiple enemies simultaneously can be daunting, making the use of stealth, precise timing, and the surrounding environment essential for advancing towards well-protected targets.
The storyline, while brief, remains true to the core of Assassin’s Creed Mirage
The main character, Basim, in Mirage has a shorter and more linear storyline compared to recent entries, making the adventure more focused. Your main mission starts from the investigation board, a network of clues and hints all pointing towards the main targets. Solving smaller issues often leads to bigger revelations, bringing you closer to the grand conspiracy behind all the chaos.
Baghdad and its surrounding areas feel more bustling and alive than any city since Unity or Syndicate. It’s filled with vibrant streets to blend in with, and the neighborhoods have open houses for you to run through while evading.
Assassin’s Creed Mirage offers a nostalgic yet not exceptionally outstanding gameplay experience
Basim also has a special stealth kill ability that allows you to mark multiple targets and take them all out in an impressive fashion. This is very useful for clearing rooms with multiple guards that you can’t easily separate, or for eliminating priority targets when a direct confrontation is unavoidable.
While the locations you infiltrate here aren’t better or more interesting than what we’ve seen in recent years, Mirage takes some cues from stealth games like Hitman. I appreciate that there are both new and familiar ways to sneak in and weaken the forces.
The combat mechanics are simple but sufficient to keep players engaged
The reduced Skill Tree in Mirage has a significant impact on how you want to play. Each skill has a major effect. Some are simple and help you do better what you could already do, while others feel like features that existed by default in older entries. I’ve never regretted investing points into any skill, as they all make me better.
Overall, Assassin’s Creed Mirage is a commendable step back to the franchise’s original spirit. The game focuses on stealthy gameplay and exploration, along with a concise and more easily followable storyline. While Mirage may not be the most groundbreaking or innovative, it restores hope that there is still room for an Assassin’s Creed entry we haven’t seen in nearly a decade
