The media has repeatedly reported that Apple’s enforcement of the Digital Markets Act has been applied.
This is an important law in the field of EU Internet surveillance. Apple will be forced to open third-party payment channels under the new legal framework.
Recently, Apple finally officially announced the application market regulations according to the new EU policy, allowing third-party payment channels to participate in the iOS ecosystem. This also means that the Apple iOS-only era has officially ended in the EU. However, ecological openness is not unconditional. Apple claims that because “operating a third-party alternative app marketplace requires significant responsibility and oversight over the user experience.” In order to maintain experience standards, Apple will only authorize marketplace developers that meet the conditions for participation and will protect user reliability and safety. Accordingly, to open a third-party iOS store in the EU, the developer must apply for permission from Apple and meet professional requirements.
Apple has also made important adjustments to its app sharing policies. Developers can choose to maintain the previous policy or sign up for new “alternative distribution terms.” Only developers who sign and agree to these terms can distribute their apps.
